At 0.93 doctors per 1,000 people, India remains one of the most doctor-deficient nations in the world. Axis Trust Foundation, run by two co-trustees, pays tuition fees and mess fees for students selected through a structured two-part evaluation of academic merit and financial need.

That is not for a lack of capable students. Cost, not ability, is what keeps most of them out — it remains the principal barrier for capable students across India.

About the trust
Co-trustee
Six-plus years across consulting, venture capital and healthcare.
He currently leads innovation strategy for one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies. He started Axis with a plain observation — “India has too few doctors and too many students who could have been one.” The work since has been rebuilding that opportunity, one seat at a time.

Eight years building the ecosystem Axis students live and learn within.
Housing, nutrition, safety and wellbeing — alongside sustained advocacy for student rights with government officials. She has been instrumental in establishing the hostels, mess facilities and support systems Axis students rely on. Her conviction: access is only meaningful if the students who gain it are genuinely cared for, every step of the way.
